Arjun wrote:Excerpts from an article titled "Brahma Kumaris Story" written by Jeff von Kaenel, President/CEO of News and Review in Sacramento, USA published in the January edition of the 'Purity' magazine of BKs:
"First I enjoyed meeting the staff, who had wonderful stories about how Brahma Kumaris changed their lives. The volunteers mentioned that meditation helped them turn off repetitive negative thoughts in their mind and allowed them to focus on the here and now, improving relationships with their families and within their lives. Brother Ram Prakash, told me how meditation might have saved his life on 9/11, as he calmly made his way down the stairs of one of the World Trade Centers before it collapsed. He is now so focused on helping other people, something he clearly attributed to his BK experiences. These stories moved me."
Jeff von Kaenel, President/CEO of News and Review in Sacramento, has made another article in World Renewal magazine August 2007. It is about him and his 14 year daughter going to Madhuban and meeting BapDada.

Maybe he can also be invited to join in this forum? Google and he comes up even in the wiki.

Om Shanti.
In the December, 2007 issue of 'Purity' magazine published by BKs, in an article titled 'Campaign for Holistic Rural Development: A Report' it has been reported by the Purity Bureau that :

''A five-month long campaign for holistic rural development was organized by the Brahmakumaris, covering 30 states across the country. The subjects taken up during the campaign were education, health including de-addiction and hygiene, eradication of social evils and spread of spiritual awareness among the rural folk ...

... The outline and accomplishments of the campaign were also highlighted by her during the finale. In all, the campaign ran for 5 months in which 211 yatras were organised. Through 13000 yatris who participated, crores of people were enlightened about need for spirituality and poverty eradication. While 1,10,000 villages were covered, 14 lakh villagers pledged to give up their addictions. During the campaign very startling instances were found from the remotest areas like a five-year-old boy who had been drinking for past two years and a three-year-old girl taking gutka."

Om Shanti. The latest issue of The Week magazine, which is one of the reputed and best-selling weekly magazines of India carries a cover story titled "CEOs and spirituality - India Inc. embraces the new mantra" and includes the examples of how some of the top Indian CEOs cope with stress.

Anu Aga, former Chairperson, Thermax, while praising Vipassana, a Buddhist form of meditation, says that her employees are into Art of living and Brahmakumaris.

According to the above magazine, K.S.Raju, CEO, Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals is associated with the Brahmakumaris apart from Swami Parthasarathy's Vedanta Institute and Swami Sukhbodhananda.

I have learnt from my BK sources that K.S.Raju's late Father Shri K.V.K.Raju who was the CEO of NFCL till his demise had become a pukka BK during his lifetime. He was one of the one of the first major industrialist/CEO followers of BKWSU. Actually, it was he who changed the course of BKWSU's functioning by diverting their focus from the traditional seven-day course to self-management courses. He was one who gave the BKWSU access to the global Inc. by investing a huge amount of money.

He sent many of his employees to Mount Abu for spiritual training and even got a BK center opened exclusively for his staff at Nagarjuna Hills with such luxuries that BK teachers or even Dadis had hardly seen in India. He hails from the same city (actually a twin city consisting of Hyderabad and Secunderabad) whose teachers were introduced to this forum by ex-l recently wearing crowns along with Dadi Janaki.

Before the arrival of KVK Raju on to the scene, the BK empire of the above mentioned twin cities was divided into two areas named Hyderabad and Secunderabad. But such was the hostility between the two zones that special teachers were brought from the financial capital of India - Mumbai to manage this special center at Nagarjuna Hills. And it was neither affiliated to Hyderabad nor Secunderabad group of centers. After the demise of KVK Raju his son probably did not show as much interest as his Father, but nevertheless continued to patronize it and the BK center at Nagarjuna Hills continues to be a special center for BKWSU. I have also come to know that this center also runs a BK shop on the lines of those available in Western Countries selling BK products.

KVK Raju was also responsible for giving a stronghold to the BK Management gurus from abroad like Brian Bacon, etc. in the Indian Inc.

This is a bit of a turn up fo rthe book. BKs do something practical!

Any news on how this went or if it was carried on or carried out elsewhere?
Brahma Kumaris adopt village - Mohali, January 27 2005

Kambali village, near here, has been adopted as the first village of Punjab under a novel project “Call of the time — swachh, swarnim, gramin Bharat” by the Prajapati Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya.

A large number of Brahma Kumaris and Brahma Kumars went to different corners of the village and cleaned the streets and other localities. Villagers were inspired to keep their homes, streets clean in order to save themselves from the spread of diseases.

BK Meena, In charge of the Rural Development wing of Mohali Ropar circle, inaugurated the project and said that all efforts would be made by Brahma Kumaris to develop the village as a model with the cooperation of villagers.

BK Prem, In charge of centres in Ropar district, said here today that the first phase of the project was launched yesterday. The aim of launching the project was to implement numerous programmes of cleanliness, health awareness, drug de-addiction etc.

Hooray for Brahmakumari Pramilaben.
Snehalaya - Solapur

Cause: Snehalaya – Solapur was formed to provide proper education and to ensure overall rehabilitation of children from the Red light areas. During 9 years of its existence, Snehalaya has proved itself as a home of love & affection for these children and has been making all out efforts to inculcate in them the moral values so that they grow up as responsible citizens of the society.

Profile: The source of inspiration for this project was Late Rupali, the daughter of Snehalaya President – Shri. Pradeepkumar Shingavi. She was suffering from critical illness of Thalessamia. Due to her illness, she should not have survived beyond the age of 4 years; but her religious faith and strong humanitarian values helped her reach the age of 18 years. She used to celebrate her birthday in the school for the Blind & orphans in a very simple manner. She was very keen to work for the welfare of the handicapped and destitute children. When her Father (Pradeepji) asked about her last wish, she expressed, in no uncertain terms, her strong desire to help the most underprivileged children. Her strong and affectionate concern to help the underprivileged children till her last breath deeply moved and greatly inspired her Father.

As these children come from a very difficult background, it was necessary that the overall in-charge of the project should be a very compassionate and mature person capable of maintaining proper discipline also. Fortunately, they found Brahmakumari Pramilaben, who after offering her services to the spiritual institution, Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, agreed to take the overall responsibility for the day to day running this institution. She is working as the Managing Secretary of Snehalaya and stays 24 hours at the Centre itself. She has played a very vital role in bringing up this institution by her total devotion and selfless service inculcating the spiritual and moral values amongst the residents of Snehalaya.

Initially a survey was carried out regarding women from the red light areas of south Maharashtra, especially areas of Solapur, Osmanabad, Latur, Barshi, Tembhurni and Pandharpur. These women were helped with their basic needs, such as water problems, House repairs and problems of getting their Ration cards etc. besides free medical checkup camps, AIDS awareness camps, etc.

After such confidence building measures, 21 children were given admission to Snehalaya. Adequate arrangements were made for their food, shelter, clothing and education. Gradually by proper counseling and training, the development of these children showed excellent progress and they became quite social, friendly and cheerful and started participating in various in-house activities including sports, etc. enthusiastically.
Arpan is supporting about 20 institutions working at the grass root level in the following areas,
  • - Providing education to the children in the slums and the tribal regions
    - Improving health standards amongst the children in regions where the mortality rate is very high due to malnutrition
    - Rehabilitation of the mentally/physically challenged and the leprosy patients
    - Creating self help groups for women and providing them with micro finance to help them live their life with dignity.
Mission Statment

Arpan's mission is to serve humanity by supporting institutions that work at the grass root levels and to distribute 100% of the collected funds. Our aim is to develop Arpan into an institution that attracts the younger generation so that the power of serving humanity may be passed on as the legacy of the elder generation.

Present Status

We have identified some institutions that are functioning well but can use more funds to support their causes. We also noticed that the people behind these institutions are lifetime devotees of their cause. Amte family of Maharogi Seva Samiti has been serving for three generations. The Project tab of the website lists and gives more details of these projects and the persons behind them. We have identified several institutions.

This is the only positive news about BKWSU I heard since years.

What a shame, if the leadership and the Seniors were not obsessed with the idea to become world rulers, they could have rescued 2 million Indian children. They have the best human resources and the budget.

Thank you Sister Pramilaben, best wishes.

Excerpts from the article titled "Cardiologists' Meet: Healthy Mind for a Healthy Heart" published in the October issue of the Purity Magazine published by BKs:

"The World Congress on Clinical, Preventive and Geriatric Cardiology (WCCGCP) 2008 at the Brahma Kumaris Om Shanti Retreat Center (ORC) Gurgaon became a meeting ground for eminent cardiologists and spiritualists who deliberated on the effective means to counter the epidemic of heart diseases. Around 500 experts from the field of cardiology from across the globe participated in a three day conference recently.

Former President of India Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam inaugurated the prestigious Congress and shared his vision of minimizing heart disease and providing optimum care to cardiac patients. In his elaborate presentation, he suggested a multi-dimensional health care strategy and multidisciplinary research including nano technology and stem cell research for pain free and preventive cardiac care.

Lauding the research findings of a joint project by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Global Hospital and Research Center of Brahma Kumaris at Mount Abu he said that meditation had proven to be an effective means of treating and preventing cardiac ailments. He stressed on the inclusion of healthy lifestyle guidelines in school curriculum as the prevalence of heart diseases is increasing rapidly in children. He urged cardiologists to come forward and treat under privileged cardiac patients free of cost or at concessional rates."

Meditation can sometimes be bad for a heart condition depending on the degree. Meditation as in just sitting still and try to relax is good for every one, but that is not meditation.

An email sent to me by a BK friend:

Om Shanti

Dear Divine Family,

Thanks for your overwhelming response....
But please co-operate by following instructions accurately.

We are receiving plenty of e-mails with 1 or 2 or 5 entries (mobile numbers).

It is not viable to open so many e-mails, so many excel files and
to merge them one by one in the SMS Server Database.

So, we request you all to follow below instructions.

- The excel file should contain Minimum 25 entries. (It is minimum, not maximum).
- That means - enter the data of at least 25 BKs in 1 excel file only.
- You can enter up to 108 entries in 1 excel file.
- It will be better if this is done through centres.
- Centres can collect data of all their BK Students (those who want to receive sms)
and then send the whole list in 1 excel file.
- Kindly think Unlimited and co-operate in Baba's Unlimited service.
- Find the attached Modified Registration Form in Excel File for easy registration.
- Under the Wing1, Wing2 & Wing3 columns, you can write which wings you are interested in.
- The list of RERF wings can be found at the bottom of the wings' columns.
- Incomplete entries will not be accepted.
- Only BKs can register their mobile numbers for this facility.
- Mobile number of anyone should not be sent to us without his/her prior consent.
- Make sure that you type the correct mobile number accurately.
- Send the excel file by e-mail to <SMS@Om Shanti. com> with a CC to <Team@SMSClub. co.in>
- Printed copy or handwritten copy of the registration form cannot be accepted.
- Requests by sms or phone calls cannot be accepted.
- It may take about 1 week to start Vardan sms after getting your list.
- You can forward this e-mail to your connected centres & BKs so that they can also take benefit of this.
- Please send us your registration forms before April 5, 2010. After that, we may not be able to accept more free registrations.

with kind regards,
BK Anand
