Reading Herodotus

A student reading Herodotus in the original Greek alongside an English translation has some insightful articles and analyses on his blog. I would like to read more of the classics. This writer certainly whets my appetite.

Re: The Tao of the Traveller

The organisation and the people in it are still the most authentic, true spirited, pure-hearted and hard-working people that I have ever met. I have yet to meet a Raja Yogi who wants something back for what they have given. I could tell you many wonderful stories illustrating this, but would you re...

Expressing anger

Recognizing that the BKWSU's narrow orthodoxy about anger -- that anger is unequivocally negative and destructive -- helped me see that the BK teachings are fallable. I, too, suppressed my feelings of anger for many years, became quiet and dull. If I am still dull, at least I am no longer quiet! I b...

Re: parade of Miss Madhuban

For new comers like JeanRoss, let me explain that the kindergarden play, Carnival costumes, are very common in this organization, and members have to attend celebrations where such masquerades occur. Many of us expect such occasions to be more "meditation oriented, " but often they turn i...

Re: Who is Bharat and who are Bharatwasis ??

Thank you. I think that is most helpful. But I think we have to join with others where they are at ... slaves to the BKs or even PBKs ... give them free access to what they are holding on to ... the Murlis ... and then walk them step by step out of the desert (to use a religious metaphor) ... Murli...

Re: Janki Foundation is not a front organisation

Rajneesh, too, allowed himself to be worshipped, saying "I am not attached to it." Personality cult, is, in my understanding, when you lose yourself -- your independent-standing -- to another person. When this happens en-masse, around a particular person, you have a religion, or a mass mov...

Re: Mention about ex-BKs in Murlis

God wants me to have freedom of expression, real happiness, real joy, real peace. God wants me to live a normal life and not one of suppression, rigidity, control and domination by members and the leadership of the Brahma Kumaris. God wants me to communicate my feelings and emotions. God wants me t...

Re: Recruited into BK from 12-steps programs?

Is offering free meditation classes in rehabs a way to promote BK or do they keep recruitment seperate from their outreach services? Welcome to the forum, Jean. Some mature individuals among the BKs work with addicts without pushing an agenda. In most BK events and activities, however, there is an ...

Re: Karma - is it all so bad?

As I understand human inner dynamics, when we fail to accept aspects of ourselves, the rejection of sends those aspects of oneself underground, where they express unconsciously. We don't see that we are acting out. We think we have a good reason for everything we do. Having a reason is not the same ...

Re: The Tao of the Traveller

I think there is nothing odd about a group of people creating a film that expresses their spiritual beliefs through allegory. That the film's screenings may lead viewers to contact with the producers' religion ... we would expect the producers to see that result as a positive effect. After all, they...

Re: A lie is OK ... !!!

The assumption that BK followers are as children, and that it is appropriate to treat them as children is the key underlying issue for me. The euphemism for concealing is typically something like "to avoid burdening their intellect." In Zen there is the story of a particular master asked &...

Ramnath Bhai

I hung out with Ramnath for a time. He has great stories -- coming face to face with a tiger, being on a bus that rolled over -- always protected by God. He also teaches a particular systematic way of going from thinking about BK knowledge to experience. He seems to have a deep fulfillment. Not a ba...
