Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

OK, this discussion has meandered away from the title of this thread. But I'll respond briefly. OK, I appreciate you are saying "being honest is not a "cultural value" in India" Whoa, hold it pal! Whenever did I say being honest is not a cultural value in India? All I have tried ...

Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

It keeps NOT ending ... and so then they change their god's predictions and don't tell people that they have done so. In that is the confidence trick or fraud. I guess if you are Indian, you are more comfortable with the omnipresence of corruption than I might be and turn around and argue, it is OK...

Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

Although I think I follow some of it, I struggle to fully understand the import of your viewpoint. Taking money and disappearing may actually be a crime. But BKWSU has not disappeared. Manipulating people can sometimes be criminal, and sometimes be just immoral without being criminal. Which do you t...

Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

This is another complex topic, with multiples sides to it, IMO. But you have captured the gist. Here are some quick thoughts: Understand the people, what motivates them, show how the changes will only further their cause or how not making them will hurt their cause, be patient, take incremental step...

Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

It is something I've argued that they need for a long time, some kind of external ombudperson system to check any abuses. I think that is a fair statement. They are a decently large organization and a system like this wouldn't necessarily be against their principles. In fact it may only enhance the...

Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

So, would you care to go back to the theory that Brahma Kumari culture is not Indian culture? You might know of the Brahma Kumari and PBK theory which states that Brahma Kumarism is not based on Hinduism but Hinduism is based on Brahma Kumarism. Specifically that Indian culture and history is based...

Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

I am always cautious when people talk of "India" as a single monolithic whole and deny any diversity or dissent. Where is "the core"? How unique is the India you speak of in comparison to other primarily feudal societies as in, is it "India" or is it just human society...

Re: Need help to understand teachings of PBK

Thanks, Arjun.
I wouldn't have been able to infer what you explained from the Q&A extract.

Re: Need help to understand teachings of PBK

Disc.CD No.549, dated 7.4.08 at Jammu Extracts-Part-2 .. Time: 19.35-21.08 Student: Baba, Brahma Baba banished his lokik children of blood relation, [ saying:] “If you wish to follow, follow The Knowledge; otherwise, get out”. But why does he have so much attachment for the children in the path of ...

Re: Cultural values and managing conflict in India

Here are my quick thoughts. At its core India is a hierarchical society. The hierarchy is usually structured around age (commonly seen in families), or official designation within an institution, or financial stature (which has led to aristocracy) or some combination thereof. Those above in the hier...

Re: The Founding of the World Renewal Trust

BTW, I must also add about the positive impact BKs have had. Adult Indians, in general, are not very adept at managing conflicts within close relationships, due to a variety of reasons that we can go into at another time. This results in a lot of frustration, resentment, anger, depressive moods, str...

Re: The Founding of the World Renewal Trust

One can write an entire thesis on the topics you have touched. BKs are no longer the fringe group of chaste women, clad in white, avoided by people from the fear of getting hypnotized, seeking 900,000 purified souls who will serve them in paradise. Today they have their own TV channel, which also st...

fluffy bunny wrote: Why the BKWSU? How did you come across them? They're a pretty obscure choice if you are not at all involved and you seem to much up to speed to be a complete outside.
Pretty obscure? Really? When was the last time you visited India?

Re: The Founding of the World Renewal Trust

No, from my point of view, you are making assumptions (... although, to be fair, I tend to an archaic use of English so you might say "presumption". Presumptions and presumptive). I beg to differ. The canonical definition I have seen used for assumption is "the act of taking somethin...

Re: The Founding of the World Renewal Trust

When BKs moved to India, their trust from the early days was perhaps still operational. I presume ... I doubt ... probably ... probably ... not aware ... For an "academic historian", you make a lot of positive or dismissive assumptions where you should be asking to see proof or evidence i...
